Green ATL Knit Sweater: Benefitting Backpack Blessings
Benefitting BackPack Blessings
Millions of low-income children in the United States rely on food support from the National School Lunch Program. But when school is not in session, children living in food-insecure households are at risk of going without the nutrition they need. Indeed, over one in five children in Georgia is considered to be food-insecure.
Even mild under-nutrition can negatively affect behavior and school performance. The bottom line is hungry children have difficulty learning.
BackPack Blessings partners with two elementary schools and the Salvation Army After School Program to reach children who qualify for the federal Free and Reduced Price Meal Program and have little to no food on the weekends.
